What is Somatic Experiencing?
SE is all about helping your body find its way back to safety after stress or trauma. It’s based on the idea that trauma lives not just in your mind—but in your nervous system. Using gentle techniques and body awareness, SE helps release tension, calm the stress response, and restore your body’s natural ability to self-regulate. This work is slow, intentional, and deeply healing for people who feel disconnected from their bodies or overwhelmed by physical symptoms.
The body remembers what the mind forgets; it is through somatic experiencing that we can access and release stored traumatic memories. As Peter Levine, the creator of SE, puts it: “Trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside of us in the absence of an empathetic witness.”
